Mumford Metal Casting is known for quality products and services. Yet the beginning of every project starts with something just as important: quality thought. We believe that quality starts with the first operation performed. Rather than approach every project from the standpoint of “How can we make this easier for us to cast?” our teams assess “How can we easily add quality assurances for every customer of ours?” By keeping quality at the forefront, we ensure the success of each project and foster a deeper partnership with our customers.

Our commitment to high standards, innovative solutions and respect for the needs of our clients from precision parts to affordable budgets drives and inspires everything we do. In fact, our Quality Assurance program closely monitors your part every step of the way and we have on-site certified auditors. Our long-term objectives are to reach and maintain a “zero defect” quality level for all customer shipments. We achieve this by structuring our manufacturing methods, processes and controls.

Our quality capabilities are made possible by state-of-the-art equipment. Our systems include security devices, industrial controls, computer hardware, electronics, minitab software, telecommunications certified gauge calibration software, optical emission spectroscopy, programmable CMMs with VDMIS software, metal chemical analysis, and an in-process inspection system. We use statistical process controls, have spectrometer metal measurement and available process capabilities studies.

In addition, our real-time X-ray enables us to observe and analyze fill characteristics or locate flaws undetectable to the human eye. A certificate gauging system assures our gauges are kept to automotive and military specifications, and a computerized optical comparator is used for checking small, detailed geometry. We have full dimensional layout capabilities thanks to our Mitutoyo Bright Apex A-710 CMM and are well-versed in performing cleanliness testing of parts per customer specifications.

Safe-Launch Procedures

  • Design review and refinement while maximizing manufacturability
  • Process PFMEA and control plan
  • Construct tooling, sourced globally
  • Model and mistake-proof the injection process
  • Sample, correct and refine all injection parameters
  • Submit PPAP level 3 on schedule

Process Control

  • Quality improvement is facilitated by the knowledge in real time of production process parameters, giving process engineers and operators the information to control transformation technology in depth
  • Electronic monitoring provides die casting operators with real-time feedback on more than 20 critical process parameters, which are computed and displayed along with a full color shot profile
  • Each parameter is compared to master predetermined set points and tolerances
